Ash Class trip to the Quarry
On Monday 29th January Ash class visited the Somerset Earth Science centre at Moons Hill Quarry, Stoke St Michael. The children learnt about different types of rock and stone, completing fact sheets and learning about their different uses in our daily lives. They were also treated to a guided tour of the famous Whatley quarry, just outside of Mells, where they could see some the heavy machinery quarrying the stone and processing it ready to be transported around the country. The afternoon was spent making their very own volcanoes and getting them to actually erupt using water, fairy liquid and food colouring!
