W.C 4th May
This week there are 5 activities for English - as I have said Friday is technically a Bank Holiday so it’s an optional work day! The week starts with the introduction of a new story - King Midas and the Donkey Ears which the children need to order and illustrate and retell the story - all the resources on the class page so it should be fairly straight forward to follow. The next session focuses on punctuating speech with some grammar activities. This leads into the third session where the children will read a different story and they will write a summary and have a go at writing their own dialogue with direct speech. The fourth and fifth sessions move onto looking at reviews, where the children will make notes and write their own review.
The brief overview looks like this:
Day 1 – Reading a story, ordering events. Answer questions about characters.
Day 2 – Revise direct speech – practise using speech from the story.
Day 3 – Read another story, make a summary. Write direct speech.
Day 4 – Read a report. Make notes. Explore a website and make further notes.
Day 5 – Read an opinion and speculate about the writer. Write imaginatively.
All lessons have accompanying instructions and resources.
You may have noticed the ‘60 Second Reads’ which I have included below, these are a quick way to include a bit of reading comprehension into your week. This week’s are on ‘World Religions.’ You can just dip into these as and when.
