Autumn Half Term 2

In Maths, we've been learning about statistics. We have looked at different charts, graphs and tables and have compared their data.

We timed how long it would take to build a tower out of Lego and recorded our results in a line graph.

We regularly practise our spellings in lots of different, fun ways.

To link our PSHE to our PE, we had a set of equipment and designed our own exercises using that equipment. We came up with lots of creative ideas.

We created a mind map that compared ancient civilisations. For example, we found out that the Aztecs and Egyptians both built pyramids!

For English, we learnt about different clauses to make our writing even more interesting.

In Maths, we learnt about square numbers. We arranged counters into squares to help us. We also built cube numbers out of Multilink cubes.

We learnt about the phases of the Moon and showed this with Oreos!

We learnt about the theory of the Big Bang and showed how the universe could have expanded with a balloon.

We showed night and day with a torch and coloured balls. In the next lesson, we described the seasons.

To link DT and Art to Science, we created orreries. (Simple models of the solar system, with the foil Moon that orbits Earth, and Earth that orbits the Sun.) First of all we researched orreries. We then planned the process of building our orreries and created step-by-step instructions with a material list. We sanded the wooden parts for our orreries and painted them black. Next, we painted ping pong balls to make them into Earths. We made papier-mâché suns and painted these in orange and yellow. Once our orreries were assembled we created a Moon and attached this with hot glue. We created working orreries and were proud of what we made.

For Forest school, we created sparks with flint and set fire to cotton wool. We built structures from ancient civilisations, including The Great Wall of China and Benin Kingdom. We caramelised apples on a fire.

We raised money to support Children in Need. We also discussed the importance of supporting charities and joined in with Joe Wicks and his Children in Need day exercises.

To end the autumn term we had a class Christmas party. We brought in delicious party food, played party games and danced.

We created a class advent calendar and learnt about the importance of advent.

To showcase all of Sycamore's talents, we had a class talent show. Performances included: dance, singing, stand-up comedy, acting, martial arts and arts and crafts, to name a few!
