In English, we started the year with some creative writing about landing on the moon. We then recapped different grammatical features, including verbs, nouns, adverbs, adjectives and conjunctions.
Our Guided Reading text is called the UFO. This links to our science topic of Earth and Space. During our Guided Reading sessions, we have asked and answered lots of questions about settings, plot and character.
We have lots of spelling sessions where we have been recapping spelling words in fun ways! In this 20 minute session we made spelling fans, where we wrote a word from our spelling sheet and then folded the paper and wrote the word from memory. Look how hard we worked!
In Maths, we have been learning about place value. This involves understanding the position of digits in a number (e.g. hundreds, tens and ones) and applying our knowledge to solve problems. At the start of the year we were rounding to the nearest 10, now we can round to the nearest million!
We have also been comparing and ordering numbers in their ten thousands. Here we ordered numbers from smallest to largest and linked them together in huge paper chain!
Our Quest question is, 'How does land use change over time and in different regions?' In Geography, we have observed land use by spotting human and physical features on different Ordnance Survey maps, including maps of Upton Noble. We have also used compasses and have learnt about 8 point compass directions. Keep clicking through the slide show to see us pointing to South!
In PE, we have been learning about outdoor and adventurous activities, including orienteering. We used our teamworking and clear communication skills to build obstacle courses. We then used our knowledge of directions (including North, South, West and East) to direct our partner around the course - sometimes they were blindfolded!
In PSHE, we have been learning about the importance of exercise. We practised different yoga positions and persevered even when the positions were tricky.
In Science, we've been learning about Earth and Space. We have learnt different theories about Earth and the Solar System, how to order the planets from the Sun (with fruit) according to size and distance, and lots more.
For Harvest, we practised and performed the poem, 'The Harvest Queen'.
During PSHE, we wrote down negative thoughts that can stop us from doing sports activities. We then tore these up and didn't let negative thoughts stop us from playing a game where we rolled a ball between us, wearing blindfolds.
As part of a school-wide challenge, we completed 15 minutes of exercise (running, skipping, crab-walking around the track).
In Maths, we have learnt about addition and subtraction. We have subtracted with number lines and across zero using column subtraction.
We have learnt about poetry. We performed the poems '6 Ways to Look at the Moon' and 'Silver', these link to our science topic, Earth and Space.
Our outdoor learning linked to Geography. We built different settlements that allowed trade (rivers, roads, waterways) and met needs (food, water, shelter).
