Welcome to Maple Class 2018-2019
The topic in Maple class this term is World War 1 and this will provide the stimulus for much of our work up until Christmas. We have lots of fun and engaging lessons planned with art, history, geography, DT, writing and reading linked to this over arching topic.
In DT, children can look forward to building their own mini trenches and will also create art work linked to life on the frontline. The assassination of Franz Ferdinand will be the driver for much of our work in the early weeks of the year and as a result, newspaper reports will be published and play scripts will be written where pupils will present the news before editing this using iPads.
Later on in the term, we will look at the make up of a soldier in WW1 as well as the propeganda which underpinned this war. This will result in pupils producing their own posters in this style before moving on to the reasons behind the Christmas truce.
Alongside all of this, Warhorse by Michael Morporgo will be our class read and guided reading sessions will be linked to this.
Please can pupils remember to have PE kits in school all week as our timetable is flexible though the plan is for PE on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Homework is to be completed weekly with spellings sent home as well as x tables or mental maths and the usual expectations of children reading every night for at least 20 mins. Reading records will be checked regularly and these can be used as home communication logs.
Thanks for checking our page. If any parents require a meeting, either catch me after school to arrange a time or speak to the school office.
