Maple (Yr 6)
Welcome to year 6 - Maple Class. Thanks for taking the time to look around! In year 6, we have 3 adults who will support the pupils in navigating their way through their final year at Upton Noble Primary. Mrs Saxton and Mrs Pritchard will continue to provide classroom support alongside me - Mr Oakes. I joined the school in January and have been made to feel very welcome, enjoying life with my new class.
Needless to say, Maths and English - which are the core of the national curriculum - will be our focus throughout morning sessions. During this time, pupils will have daily maths, writing and reading lessons as well as short and sharp daily spelling sessions (through Read Write Inc) and x table challenges. During the afternoons the focus will change to Science and the foundation subjects including Geography, History, Art and ICT. These lessons will be very much pupil led, linking in with the school's focus on independent enquiry.
NB: PE will be on Mondays and Fridays so please can the pupils have their full PE kit in on these days with warm clothes available for the winter months.
The children work both individually and with their peers in the classroom and school grounds and are encouraged to be resilient and communicate effectively in team situations. We also ensure the children experience learning in different ways and are given opportunities to share ideas and develop their creativity.
I am available to discuss any questions you may have about the children’s learning or their pastoral care, just pop in to arrange a time or phone Mrs Hartnell in the office.
Mr Luke Oakes
